What is the reason behind the ban?
According to past reports, VLC Media Player was banned under the IT Act, of 2000. At that time, while opening the website of VLC Media, the message of being banned under the IT Act was visible on the screen. According to reports, a Chinese connection is being said to be behind the banning of VLC media players. Cicado, a hacking group from China, conducted a cyber attack in India using this video player platform.
Cyber security experts present in the country had told that this Chinese hacking group is using a VLC media player to spread a suspected malware loader. Because of this, there can be a cyber attack on India. This is one of the reasons why India has banned VLC Media Player. However, the Government of India did not give any statement from its side regarding the ban. Later, the company accused the Indian government that the government had banned its platform without any valid proof.
