Somy Ali, founder of the NGO No More Tears, recently addressed a growing controversy surrounding a Reddit session where comments attributed to her name went viral, shifting the spotlight from her mission to unrelated topics. In a heartfelt statement, Somy clarifies her intentions and reiterates her unwavering commitment to helping victims of abuse and trafficking.
On her instagram she posted.”I want to take a moment to address the recent controversy surrounding a Reddit session that has gone viral. My purpose in participating in the session was solely to promote No More Tears, my NGO dedicated to supporting victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.”
Reflecting on the misunderstanding, Somy explained that comments made without her knowledge by Akshay Sharma, the Vice President of No More Tears, led to misinterpretations that have detracted from the organization’s mission ,she says, “Some comments made in my name by Akshay Sharma about Salman Khan and even Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, without my knowledge or approval, led to a wave of misinterpretations and distractions. Everyone knows I can’t type so fast in a live session.”

Having dedicated 17 years to advocating for survivors, Somy expressed her disappointment over the narrative’s shift away from her NGO’s crucial work. “I have no interest in discussing individuals from my past or anything beyond the work we do at No More Tears. I agreed to the session to raise awareness of my NGO’s mission, not to create controversy.”
After 14 years of living away from the public eye, Somy began engaging with the media three years ago solely to amplify her NGO’s work. However, she now intends to be more selective with her media interactions to avoid focusing on past controversies. “I am no more interested in giving Zoom video interviews where they ask only about Salman to raise TRP of their news shows. Moving forward, I will be limiting my media interactions to ensure the focus remains on No More Tears.”
Somy also expressed her gratitude to those who have supported her organization’s mission, despite the challenges of online trolling and negativity. “Despite facing trolling and negativity, I remain focused and determined. I appeal to everyone to join me in stopping abuse of any kind. We are all humans, deserving of equal rights and a life of dignity.” Ending on a hopeful note, Somy shared an inspiring quote from Bollywood legend Rajesh Khanna: ‘Zindagi bahut khoobsurat hai, jeene ka salika aana chhaiye’—Life is very beautiful; one must know how to live it.”
