Mumbai:The veteran actor, known for his unique comic timing and some of the best supporting roles in Hindi films and television serials, has died at the age of 56, drawing fresh focus to a career that lasted for several decades, not to mention a private life that he managed to keep out of the public eye.
Over the years, Khan became a familiar face to Hindi film audiences through appearances in popular films including Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Judwaa, Hera Pheri, Jodi No. 1 and Welcome. Among his widely remembered performances was his role as Ballu in Welcome, which became particularly popular with audiences.
While his professional journey kept him in front of the camera, Khan maintained considerable privacy around his family.
According to media reports, Mushtaq Khan was married to Salma Khan. Khan had previously spoken about his personal life in an interview with NDTV, recalling that an earlier romantic relationship had not worked out. He later opted for an arranged marriage following his parents’ advice.
Mushtaq and Salma Khan had two sons, Mohammed Arshad Khan and Mohshin Khan, according to NDTV. Arshad is married to Saba Khan, who has been reported to work as a teacher, while Mohshin has been associated with modelling.
Despite Mushtaq Khan’s long presence in the entertainment industry, his family largely remained outside the glare of show business and public attention.
His career, meanwhile, extended well beyond the big screen. Khan appeared in several television productions, including Bharat Ek Khoj, Nukkad, Adaalat and Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi. In the latter, he played Baldev Tripathi, adding another recognisable character to his extensive body of work.
His filmography also included appearances in titles such as Aashiqui, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Welcome Back, Gadar 2 and Stree 2, alongside work in regional cinema and streaming projects.
