Triptii Dimri has long been Bollywood’s favourite actress, one who can make audiences believe in slow-burn romances, longing and old-school love. Now that she gears up for O’ Romeo’s release, one thing is clear that Triptii has flipped the script and how! Taking a strong detour from her girl-next-door image, Triptii embraces her most intriguing, emotionally raw and grey role so far.
The recently released trailer of O’ Romeo introduces her as Afsha, a role where there’s anger simmering beneath the surface, vulnerability that makes you relate to her and a quiet emotional strength that’s ready to take charge. What makes this transition into the intense, grey zone even more real is how natural it feels. The actress does not abandon her softness to wear the grit; she sharpens it. Whether it’s her stillness or moments of controlled rage, Triptii strips down the character. Visually too, the actress lets Afsha take center stage with minimal glam and expressive close-ups that make you feel one with her.
During the recently held trailer launch too, director Vishal Bhardwaj admired and pointed out how Triptii, being a Pahaadi, does not leave behind her simplicity even after tasting success. “Usne apni saadgi nahi chodi hai, wo khushboo usne nahi chodi hai,” he had shared, further hailing her emotional understanding by saying, “Triptii se mil ke, baat kar ke I got the feeling that she had that spark. Aur mai bahot baar surprise hua hu.” And it shows how Triptii carries that ability to balance both – glam and grey.
With O’ Romeo, Triptii bridges the gap between being the girl-next-door that audiences love, and embracing intensity with mature, dark roles, shedding light on the intense performer she’s becoming – and honestly, we are seated!
Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, O’ Romeo is slated to release in theatres on February 13, 2025, coinciding with Valentine’s Day.
