Renault Duster Hybrid Launched in India: Price and Features

Renault has introduced the Duster Strong Hybrid in India at an introductory starting price of Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The new hybrid SUV features the Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 powertrain, delivering a claimed combined output of 158 BHP and 208 Nm of torque. Renault also claims an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 km/l and a driving range of up to 1,400 km.

The Strong Hybrid is the third powertrain offering for the 2026 Renault Duster lineup, joining the two turbo-petrol options introduced earlier this year. The hybrid SUV will be available in three variants: Evolution, Techno and Emotion.

With its combination of petrol and electric propulsion, the new Duster aims to attract buyers looking for a mid-size SUV with improved fuel efficiency and long-distance driving capability.

Renault Duster Strong Hybrid: Price and Variants

Renault is offering the Duster Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 in three variants, with prices starting below Rs 17 lakh.

Variant Ex-showroom price
Duster Strong Hybrid Evolution Rs 16.99 lakh
Duster Strong Hybrid Techno Rs 18.99 lakh
Duster Strong Hybrid Emotion Rs 19.49 lakh

All three variants use the 1.8-litre Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 powertrain. The prices mentioned above are ex-showroom and do not include applicable registration charges, insurance or other on-road expenses.

Renault Duster Strong Hybrid Engine and Performance

The new Renault Duster Strong Hybrid uses a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine operating on the Atkinson cycle. The petrol engine produces 108 BHP and 172 Nm of torque, with a claimed thermal efficiency of 41%.

It works alongside two electric motors, comprising a generator and a traction motor. Together, the hybrid system delivers a combined output of 158 BHP and 208 Nm of torque.

Renault claims the Duster Strong Hybrid can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.61 seconds. The powertrain is designed to balance performance and fuel efficiency by automatically switching between petrol and electric power depending on driving conditions.

Hybrid System, Battery and Transmission

The Renault Duster Strong Hybrid features a 1.4 kWh, 247V nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery with direct refrigerant cooling.

The system is paired with a dedicated multi-mode hybrid transmission, or DHT, featuring two electric gears and four petrol-engine gears. This setup enables the vehicle to use electric propulsion, petrol power or a combination of both when required.

According to Renault, the hybrid system automatically manages six operating modes based on driving conditions. It can use electric power when suitable, recover energy during braking and deceleration, and switch between the electric motors and combustion engine to optimise efficiency.

The system is designed to reduce unnecessary petrol-engine use, particularly in urban driving conditions.

Renault Duster Strong Hybrid Mileage and Driving Range

Fuel efficiency is one of the key highlights of the new Duster Strong Hybrid. Renault claims an ARAI-certified mileage of 29 km/l, making the SUV an option for buyers prioritising fuel economy in the mid-size SUV segment.

The company also claims that up to 80% of city driving can take place in electric mode under suitable conditions. This does not mean the vehicle is a fully electric SUV; the petrol engine remains an integral part of the hybrid powertrain.

Renault further claims a total driving range of up to 1,400 km. Actual mileage and range will depend on factors such as traffic, driving style, road conditions, vehicle load and the use of air conditioning.

Renault Duster Strong Hybrid: Rivals in India

The Renault Duster Strong Hybrid enters a segment that already includes established strong-hybrid SUVs from Toyota and Maruti Suzuki.

Its key rivals include:

  • Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid
  • Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid
  • Maruti Suzuki Victoris Strong Hybrid

The Duster’s claimed 29 km/l fuel efficiency, 158 BHP combined output and starting price of Rs 16.99 lakh will be important considerations for buyers comparing hybrid SUVs.

The final choice will also depend on variant-specific equipment, ownership costs, driving experience, after-sales support and the actual fuel efficiency achieved in everyday use.

Renault’s India Strategy and Future Plans

The launch forms part of Renault’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence in India. Under its ‘futuREady’ strategic plan, the company aims to build a seven-product lineup and regain market share.

Renault has also outlined ambitions to make India one of its top three global markets. Its plans include expanding product engineering capabilities in the country and increasing exports to €2 billion by 2030.

The Duster Strong Hybrid adds another powertrain option to the company’s renewed product lineup as it looks to attract customers in India’s competitive SUV market.

Is the Renault Duster Strong Hybrid Worth Considering?
