Mumbai: OTT audiences will have a busy Friday with six new movies and series coming on the major OTT platforms. The list also includes romance, family drama, crime, mystery, thriller films, all of which will see a release on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, JioHotstar and ZEE5.
Among the notable titles are Don’t Be Shy, Bakaiti Season 2, Hunkkaar: The Roar, Unabomber, Mango Pachcha and The Final Problem, offering viewers a varied selection for the weekend.
Don’t Be Shy – Amazon Prime Video
Produced by Alia Bhatt, Don’t Be Shy is a coming-of-age romantic comedy centred on Shy, played by Aarushi Bajaj. Her carefully mapped-out college life and plans for the future are disrupted following a breakup.
As she deals with heartbreak and builds new friendships, Shy begins discovering herself while confronting the uncertainties and complications that come with growing up.
Bakaiti Season 2 – ZEE5
The Kataria family returns in the second season of Bakaiti, with another family crisis taking centre stage. This time, the conflict revolves around the future of their ancestral property, Kataria Kutir.
Ajay, Alka and Aman move back into the house, bringing the two sides of the family under the same roof. Their reunion soon leads to disagreements involving property, money and contrasting personalities. Rajesh Tailang, playing Sanjay, finds himself trying to hold the family together amid the growing chaos.
Hunkkaar: The Roar – JioHotstar
Crime drama Hunkkaar: The Roar features Aneet Padda, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Raghubir Yadav in prominent roles.
The story follows 17-year-old Meenu Rawat, played by Aneet Padda, after she accuses a powerful cult leader of sexual assault. Her complaint attracts intense public attention and scrutiny, while ACP Jasleen Singh Soni, portrayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh, takes charge of the investigation.
The series explores the ensuing struggle involving allegations of abuse, institutional power, truth and public perception.
Unabomber – Netflix
Netflix’s Unabomber unfolds across two timelines and explores the story of Ted Kaczynski, portrayed by Jacob Tremblay during his younger years.
The narrative begins with Kaczynski as a 16-year-old Harvard student who becomes involved in controversial psychological experiments conducted by Henry Murray, played by Russell Crowe. Years later, the story shifts to an investigation involving fictional FBI agent Joanne Miller, played by Shailene Woodley, as authorities pursue Kaczynski.
Mango Pachcha – JioHotstar
Kannada crime drama Mango Pachcha, written and directed by Viveka, stars Sanchith Sanjeev as Prashanth, popularly known as Pachcha.
Pachcha runs a video rental shop in Mysuru, but his life changes when he discovers that his late father had been involved in a marijuana-smuggling operation. The discovery draws him into the criminal underworld, where his growing ambitions lead him further down a dangerous path.
The film combines elements of action and organised crime with a story centred on inheritance, ambition and the consequences of entering an illicit business.
The Final Problem – Netflix
Mystery mini-series The Final Problem takes viewers back to 1959 and follows Basil, played by José Coronado, a former celebrated actor best known for portraying Sherlock Holmes.
When a mysterious death takes place at a secluded hotel, Basil decides to use the investigative instincts he developed while playing the legendary fictional detective. Surrounded by suspicious guests, he begins searching for clues to uncover what really happened.
The series is adapted from a novel by acclaimed Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte.
A Genre-Spanning Weekend for OTT Viewers
The September 25 releases underline the increasingly diverse mix available to streaming audiences.
