A Pakistani spy comes to India with his memory erased, kicking off an unconventional espionage comedy that’s full of mistaken identity, action and romance.
Mumbai: The trailer for Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s ‘Udta Teer’ has been released, teasing audiences with an unusual spy comedy, which re-inverts the normal spy plot between India and Pakistan.
Directed by Aakash Kaushik (his directorial debut), the film features espionage, action, romance and situational comedy wrapped up around a spy whose mission goes awfully wrong, when he loses his memory.
The release of the film in cinemas around the world is set for October 9, 2026.
Ayushmann Khurrana Plays a Pakistani Spy Who Forgets His Mission
At the centre of Udta Teer is Bilal, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, a Pakistani intelligence operative sent to India on a covert assignment.
However, the mission takes an unexpected turn following a blast that causes Bilal to lose his memory. With no recollection of his actual identity or the purpose that brought him to India, he becomes convinced that he is associated with India’s Counter-Terrorism Squad.
The resulting identity confusion forms the central comic premise of the film. The man sent to operate against India gradually begins behaving like an Indian patriot, even as those around him remain unaware of the full truth behind his identity.
Sara Ali Khan Joins the Mission
Sara Ali Khan stars alongside Khurrana as a Counter-Terrorism Squad officer who becomes caught up in the confusion surrounding Bilal.
The trailer brings together their characters through a series of comic and action-driven situations while also introducing a romantic element to the story.
Their equation adds another layer to the narrative as Bilal attempts to navigate a world he no longer fully understands while remaining unaware of the mission he was originally sent to execute.
Gulshan Grover, Ram Kapoor Lead Extensive Supporting Cast
Beyond its lead pair, Udta Teer features an extensive ensemble cast including Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Smita Tambe.
The trailer positions several of these characters around the larger espionage operation, adding competing agendas, misunderstandings and complications to Bilal’s already chaotic situation.
The film is also among the late actor Mukul Dev’s final screen appearances.
A Comic Spin on the Spy Genre
Rather than adopting the serious tone generally associated with espionage thrillers, Udta Teer approaches the genre through humour and absurdity.
Its central idea — a foreign intelligence operative forgetting his identity and becoming convinced that he belongs to the country he was sent to infiltrate — creates room for mistaken identities, dramatic irony and situational comedy.
The trailer moves between action sequences, patriotic references, romantic moments and comic exchanges, positioning the film as a family-oriented entertainer rather than a conventional spy thriller.
The unusual premise has also prompted social-media comparisons with recent espionage films, particularly Dhurandhar. However, Udta Teer appears to approach the cross-border spy setting from a distinctly comic perspective.
Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment Join Forces
Udta Teer is presented by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment and produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain.
The project marks another collaboration between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment following their previous association on projects including Kill.
The film’s music has been composed by Sachin-Jigar, with lyrics penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya and music supervision by Azeem Dayani.
For Aakash Kaushik, who has previously worked as a screenwriter on films including Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Udta Teer marks his first feature film as a director.
‘Udta Teer’ Set for October 9 Theatrical Release
With its trailer now released, Udta Teer is positioning itself as a genre-bending entertainer that combines a cross-border espionage story with comedy, action, romance and family entertainment.
The film also brings Ayushmann Khurrana back into a humour-driven space, with his character’s memory loss and identity crisis serving as the foundation for much of the narrative’s comic chaos.
Udta Teer will release in cinemas worldwide on October 9, 2026
