Mumbai:Director Joko A. Wiwin’s upcoming movie is set in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, with actor Rajkummar Rao playing public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam.
Mumbai, September 30, 2026: The trailer of the Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam with Rajkummar Rao in the lead role has been released, providing a glimpse into the courtroom drama after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Directed by Avinash Arun and produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films, the film places the spotlight on veteran public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and his role in the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving attacker captured following the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
The trailer presents Rajkummar Rao in a restrained yet intense portrayal of Nikam, with the courtroom becoming the central battleground. Rather than focusing primarily on weapons and action, Prahaar explores the legal process and the role of evidence, testimony and due process in seeking justice.
The narrative follows Nikam as he builds the prosecution’s case against Kasab while confronting the legal and emotional complexities surrounding one of India’s most closely followed criminal trials. The trailer also highlights the pressure surrounding the case and the challenges faced by those involved in bringing the matter before the courts.
Rajkummar Rao’s transformation into Nikam is a key element of the film. From his appearance and mannerisms to his Marathi dialogue delivery and courtroom presence, the actor portrays the prosecutor as a man determined to establish the case through evidence and the judicial process.
The film also features Wamiqa Gabbi as Jyoti Nikam, bringing a personal dimension to the story and offering a glimpse into how the demands of the case affected Nikam’s life beyond the courtroom. Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher appear in significant roles, adding further layers to the courtroom narrative.
The trailer was unveiled at Mumbai’s iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Ujjwal Nikam, Rajkummar Rao and members of the film’s team. The venue carries particular significance in the context of the 26/11 attacks and the events portrayed in the film.
At the event, tribute was also paid to the police personnel who lost their lives during the attacks and to those who were involved in Mumbai’s response to the tragedy.
While films based on the 26/11 attacks have previously explored the events from different perspectives, Prahaar shifts its focus to what followed: the legal proceedings, the presentation of evidence and the pursuit of justice through the courts.
Alongside Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher, the film features an ensemble cast including Ashish Vidyarthi, Lalit Prabhakar and Ritvik Sahore.
Written by Sumit Roy, who has worked on the story, screenplay and dialogues, Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam is scheduled to release in cinemas on October16, 2026.
