- Mullum Malarum
Mullum Malarum is one of the films that came from Rajinikanth’s early films and was released in 1978. The movie is directed by J. Mahendran, who are also the lead actors of this film, along with Rajinikanth, who plays the role of Kaali, and Shoba and Sarath Babu.
Balu Mahendra’s cinematography and Ilaiyaraaja’s music too are remembered with the film. The movie did not give a larger than life role to Rajinikanth like he was going to be popular for later, but rather gave him a strongly character driven role.
2 Mugavari
In the film ‘Mugavari’, directed by V. Z. Durai, Ajith Kumar played a completely different character. He portrays an aspiring music composer who’s attempting to follow his dream, but grappling with financial woes, family life and personal relationships.
Jyothika and Vivek also impress in the film. If you’re looking for something less action-oriented from Ajith, then Mugavari is the movie for you as it’s more emotional and less action.

- Poove Unakkaga:Poove Unakkaga is a significant film in Vijay’s career in the Tamil movie industry, which paved the way for his rise to one of the popular stars in Tamil cinema. The film, helmed by Vikraman, has a blend of romance, family relations, humour and sacrifice in it. It was an emotional tale with S. A. Rajkumar’s music making it an enduring hit.

- Pithamagan:In 2003, director Bala made a film named Pithamagan, which was an opportunity to reunite Vikram and Suriya, in different roles. Laila and Sangeetha were also a part of the main cast.The drama had garnered much attention because of its performances, especially Vikram’s unconventional acting. The movie is still worthy of watchers who are looking for a rehash of the early 2000s, when Tamil movies were largely centred around the portrayal of characters.
Pithamagan is now confirmed to be available on Sun NXT.
- Moondram Pirai:Balu Mahendra’s 1982 film Moondram Pirai is still remembered for the great acting of Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. In the film, Kamal Haasan stars as a school teacher who is looking after a woman who has suffered memory loss after an accident. The emotional drama was later remade in Hindi with Kamal Haasan and Sridevi in 1983 as Sadma.
The Tamil version of the film has been added to Prime Video.
